Everyone is invited to the annual Ashcraft Library Project Book Fair that will be held at Barnes & Noble in Clive on Saturday, April 9th from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
The book fair is an event presented by the Ashcraft Library Project, a non-profit organization that provides books free to children of incarcerated family members.
When you make a purchase at Barnes and Noble on Saturday and mention the book fair, a portion of the profit from your purchase will bring new books to children when they visit their family member at jails across Iowa. The donation does not add to the cost of the purchase.
Entertainment for the event will include storytelling by The Two Rivers Story Spinners plus student storytellers from Drake University and various Des Moines area schools. Special musical performer, Mike Zahm, will play guitar, harmonica, washboard and spoons. Additional activities include a visit from Tulip the Clown in the afternoon, balloon figures, and a craft table where kids can create puppets and other art objects.
The Ashcraft Library Project is a 10-year-old non-profit organization committed to improving literacy of children pre-K through 8th grade that have incarcerated family members. The organization also supports the 2-4-2 project, a foster care activity between parents and their children, as well as the “What-Did-I-Do” program where children write about having family members in jail.
If you can’t attend the book fair you can still contribute. Your Barnes and Nobel book purchases made online between April 9th and April 14th will also benefit the program. Visit http://www.bn.com/bookfairs and enter code 11810074 on the payment page.
